From climate change to toxic pollution, AI risks, geopolitical conflicts and extreme inequality - humanity faces multiple, overlapping crises, driven by an extractive and exploitative economic system. We urgently need to transition to a new kind of economic system that places human and planetary flourishing at its core.
There has been a recent explosion in regenerative economic theories and business practices. Concepts such as Wellbeing Economies, Doughnut Economics and Post-Growth are now gaining traction, supported by heterodox thinking. These offer pathways towards a world in which our economies work in service of life - not the other way around.
We believe the required speed of change is too rapid to be left to economists alone. We aim to educate and empower more people to take part in the transformation to a regenerative economy. Our tailored programs bring together like-minded people to help them identify ways they can take action in their organisations, communities, networks and within society at large.

Featuring a mix of in- and outdoor spaces for learning, convening and co-creating, together we will explore ways to transform our economies so they serve people and planet, and consider the roles we can all play.
This workshop will help participants:
- Gain a systemic understanding of our intertwined ecological and social crises, and how they connect with our economic system
- Unpack the narratives and structures currently blocking transformation
- Acquire a foundational understanding of regenerative economics and the different ways we could meet our needs, beyond growth
- Become savvy with different policies, theories and approaches, such as Wellbeing Economics, Doughnut Economics, Degrowth and Modern Monetary Theory
- Learn about inspiring examples of businesses and communities that are shifting towards more resilient and regenerative models

Katy is a Scottish economist, educator and storyteller based in Vienna, Austria. Her 22 years of experience span the private sector, local government, media and non-profits. She spent some 15 years consulting and writing for major corporations and media brands such as The Economist, Financial Times and Newsweek before an alarming lecture by a climate scientist provoked her to change path. After trying to convince her corporate clients of solutions such as net zero and circular economy, she realised it was our economic system that needs to change. She began researching, communicating and teaching about systems and new economic thinking, facilitating 100s of workshops for audiences ranging from teachers to local mayors to CEOs. In 2023 Katy co-created the acclaimed Tipping Point podcast series, the result of a four-year investigation into why the world ignored the 1972 MIT study The Limits to Growth, recently featured in the Peabody-nominated Scene on Radio series, Capitalism. She is also a board-level advisor, co-organiser of the Beyond Growth Austria Conference and founder of a local Doughnut Economics chapter.
